We lost our sweet Libby girl today. She's had a rough last 6 months or so, she had a huge tumor on her back ulcerate and become infected that caused us a lot of trouble for a few months. We ended up having it surgically removed and were told that she almost certainly had cancer. Things took a turn for the worse these last 2 weeks, she would still have good days but bad days as well where she would mostly sleep, but seemed comfortable. Yesterday she wasn't eating much and seemed worse so Rob took her to the vet to get a steroid shot that was supposed to make her feel good and perk her up for a few weeks. Well unfortunately it didn't work and last night she took a drastic turn in the wrong direction. She was very distant, wouldn't look us in the eyes, couldn't get comfortable and couldn't sleep. She wanted to go outside and be alone in the freezing cold. Wouldn't eat, or drink and honestly just looked like she was suffering so much. It was breaking our hearts seeing her in pain but being the middle of the night we didn't know what to do. We laid with her and she finally seemed to sleep a little bit, her breathing was ragged and she'd start panting out of nowhere. We called the vet first thing this morning and they said we could bring her in. Then the hardest part, we had to tell the boys what was about to happen. We all sat on the floor surrounding Libby as we all cried and hugged her and hugged each other. Then Rob and I took her in to Animal Crackers. They were so good and gentle with her, and she was gone before they even finished giving her the medicine. Robbie and I sobbed and hugged each other and her and finally we had to leave our lifeless baby there and go home. She was cremated and her ashes were spread in an apple orchard and we hope she is happy running pain free and stealing balls from all the big dogs. We are going to miss her so much, she has been in our lives our entire adult lives and I can't believe she is gone. She will always have a piece of our hearts.
